Reinforcing communication on African Swine Fever during the upcoming Lunar New Year celebrations

In view of the risk of increasing the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF) during the Lunar New Year celebrations due to the greater annual migration of people in the world, the OIE recommends that travellers take the necessary precautions to prevent them from carrying this deadly disease for pigs.

As part of the OIE campaign “ASF kills pigs“, several communication tools have been made available to travellers to raise awareness of the risk of spreading the disease, including a poster, a brochure, a short animation and a general information video. Many of these tools are available in English, Spanish, French, Russian, Mandarin and 10 other languages.

A campaign guide has also been developed to introduce airport staff to different ways to help us spread the word about this issue at different stages of the journey.

We invite you to proactively adapt and disseminate these tools at the national level and to inform and coordinate actions with other ministries and government agencies in your country with responsibilities and mandates in the areas of animal health and border controls, such as customs, transportation, tourism and migration.
